The Ridge Residence reimagined an existing hillside home to strengthen its relationship to the extensive surrounding valley landscape beyond. The intervention focused on reducing the building’s perceived mass and refining its form to better sit within the sloping site. Upper living levels were simplified and rearticulated above a dark, metal-clad garage, creating a more horizontal composition that reads as lighter and more grounded within the terrain.

Interior spaces are carefully oriented to the landscape, with openings positioned to frame both the immediate wooded foreground and the broader valley beyond. Bedrooms engage the view through long, linear glazing, while the main living space is anchored by a double-height window that draws in soft northeastern light. Outdoor elements—including a lap pool and view deck—extend the living areas outward, reinforcing a strong connection between interior and exterior.

A restrained material palette of cement plaster, cement board, and aluminum windows provides a quiet counterpoint to the surrounding natural colors, allowing the landscape to remain dominant. The entry sequence weaves around an existing Japanese maple, marking a deliberate moment where architecture and site meet with care and intention.
